“Raising Awareness: A Powerful Day on Gender-Based Violence”
On 12 February 2024, within the framework of the Erasmus+ KA2 project “Schools for Gender Equity”, the second grade secondary school classes of the Omnicomprensivo “L. Salvatorelli-B. Moneta’ went to the OSMA Auditorium to attend a play on gender-based violence. The morning was preceded by the performance of a test on the subject, which showed that half of our students had witnessed or were aware of acts of gender-based violence. These important and worrying data were explored in the second part of the morning, as three short plays were held first: the first on psychological and economic violence that occurs in a family context, the second narrated a physical violence that a girl wanted to denounce, but highlighted the stereotypes and difficulties of gender language as well, highlighting the loneliness and fear of the victim, while the last was centred on the narration of a feminicide by a friend of the victim, and highlighted the signs of violence, those that are always underestimated by those close to the future victims. After these touching performances, the debate with the adolescents took place, from which different visions of the problem emerged, but from which the adolescents came out more aware of the importance of the language, attitudes and sensitivity of girls, who very often feel judged and under threat.
