“Exploring Contemporary Greek Literature: A Conversation with the Hellenic Authors Society”

On the 29th of April 2024, our school organised a physical meeting with two members of the Hellenic Authors Society. The event took place in our school’s library. Both members of the Society were women and we invited them to our schools so as to talk to us about the state of contemporary greek literature, the role that their Society plays within it and how it influences it. We also discussed about the role of women writers and the difficulties they still face today because of their gender. More specifically they mentioned that publishing houses still treat them differently from their male peers. They also talked to us about the financial difficulties they face when trying to publish their work. At the end of the meeting we informed them about our participation in the Erasmus project. Both of them liked the idea of our school’s participation in a project about gender equity and when they talked to them about our short stories contest they were especially enthusiastic and they talked to us about the importance of such activities and how they improve the confidence of the participants in writing but also how they improve the writing skills through feedback.
